Reading Activities
- Choose an appropriate book about Harry Truman to read to your class. A list of possible books is listed in the Resource section.
- Using Truman photographs, have students make up sentences about the photos. These sentences can be written on strips which the students can read and match to the correct pictures. More help in Resource section.
- Have students read their individual stories or books about Harry Truman to the class.
- Truman loved to read books. His mother taught him to read using the Bible. By the time he graduated from high school, he had read all 6,000 books in the Independence Public Library. Have students bring in and share their favorite books.
- Begin learning parts for a Harry Truman play to be performed at the end of the unit. Please see Special Activities section.
